Competitions
Competitors may use a different type of pistol between Varmint, Static and Hunter matches if they wish or they could have a single pistol that they use across the entire discipline. Both centrefire and rimfire pistols either with or without optical sights are catered for with each being in their own competition class. Holsters are not permitted for use within the Field Pistol Competitions.
Hunter Match
Field Pistol is a test of a competitor’s speed and accuracy at various distances. There may be one or multiple paper and or steel targets in different stages and the matches generally require movement between shooting positions which adds to the challenge when competing in these matches. Scoring well in this involves a combination of the competitor’s accuracy against the targets as well as the time they take to complete the course of fire. The Hunter match is designed to be a movement match that adds another dimension to the competition experience.
Varmint Match
Varmint Match is a precision static match using vermin paper targets at various ranges dependent on match requirements. For the longer ranges out to 200m competitors can also use specialised pistols that are purpose built to be accurate over long distances, these compete in their own class, of course all competitors are welcome to also use standard pistols, and they do! This is a slow timed match as the goal is accuracy, not speed.
Static Match
Static Match is a test of a competitor’s accuracy but in a more time constrained environment that uses vermin paper targets at a variety of ranges between 10m and 50m depending on the match. Each competitor has the same amount of time to complete each phase with achieving a good score depending on the accuracy of each competitor across the match. Unlike the Varmint matches, the time for the phases of this match are deliberately short to test the ability of competitors.
