When you become a member of the SSAA, you become part of Australia’s largest shooting organisation and join thousands of other people around the country in ensuring the future of the shooting sports.

Your membership gives us strength to lobby the State and Federal Governments on matters that affect our sport. The greater our membership, the more effective we are.

You are part of an Australia-wide support network, with access to SSAA sporting facilities in each state. In Western Australia alone we have over 13000 members and more than 70 clubs covering all disciplines as well as our Conservation and Wildlife Management groups who regularly perform pest management tasks as required by WA Department of Parks and Wildlife.

Every single SSAA member is covered for liability and personal accident insurance, along with membership discounts and benefits on other policies when using the services of the SSAA General Insurance Brokers (SSAAIB).The liability insurance covers the member while engaged in all lawful recreational shooting activities to a limit of $20 million, subject to $25000 excess. Some other benefits include free annual subscription to Australian Shooter magazine, The Junior Shooter, SSAA National E-newsletter and discounted rates on all our other publications.

The SSAA Farmer Assist Program provides members with increased access to hunting opportunities while helping out our farmers with their pest management issues.

SSAA Gun Sales is a new online service with free registration for SSAA members, dealers and the Australian shooting and hunting community, including firearm owners, collectors and enthusiasts. SSAA Gun Sales is Australia’s most comprehensive firearms and accessories trading website. It’s safe, secure, and simple to use.


SSAA memberships are offered to juniors and pensioners at discounted rates. Proof of pensioner status by way of SSAA pensioner membership card, a Pension Concession Card issued by Centrelink or a Veterans Affairs Pension Card will be accepted. However, Seniors and Health Care cards are not.

Can I apply for SSAA membership online?

Yes, just go to SSAA Membership.

You can also change and alter your details online, such as change of address / Club change etc.

How long does it take to get a membership number and card?

If you apply online, your membership starts from receiving confirmation from our National office, you will then get a confirming letter and about 2-4 weeks later your Member card.

If I apply through one of the SSAA clubs does my membership start straight away?

No, your membership starts when the application is receipted by our National office and a confirmation letter sent.

Do I need to keep the card with me when I shoot?

It is always advisable to keep your card with you as confirmation of your financial status with SSAA, also your club may ask to see it each time you shoot or if shooting on a farmer’s property you will need to show it.

Do I have to be a member of a club to be a member of SSAA?

No, you do not have to join one of our clubs to be a member of SSAA

Is there an age limit in becoming a member?

No, there is no age limit, some parents even sign up their babies! We have the 'Sponsor a junior' option on the membership page too.

Are reminders sent out before the renewal date?

Reminders are sent out a few weeks before your renewal, however it is worthwhile in making a note of your cards expiry date so that you don’t forget to renew.

How are renewals sent out?

A reminder to renew is sent out about a month before expiry and is shown at the front of the Shooter magazine. You will also receive a reminder renewal letter in the mail if you don't renew by the due date.
