RIFLE CLASSES
Class 1 – (Military Rifle) comprises original and replica rifles that were issued to troops somewhere in the world. For example, the .577″ Enfields and .58″ Zouave rifled muskets. All Class 1 firearms must be as issued. Sights as issued, with minor modifications permitted. No windage adjustments or set triggers. You can also use your Class 1 rifle in Vetterli, and the class 3 rifle events (100m bench, 200m bench and 300m prone). Minimum caliber .5333
Class 2 - (Traditional Rifle) comprises traditional or civilian-style percussion rifles loaded with a ball and patch. Kentucky long rifles and Hawken rifles with rifled barrels are included. Flintlocks may be used in Class 2 events, but percussion firearms cannot be used in flintlock events. You can also use your Class 2 rifle in Vetterli, and the class 3 rifle events (100m bench, 200m bench and 300m prone).
Class 3 – (Open Rifle) only requires that the rifle uses black powder and lead bullets. The firearm must be fitted with iron sights. Scopes sights are not permitted.
Class 4 – Traditional or civilian-style firelock (flintlock, matchlock, wheellock) rifles loaded with a ball and patch. Original style pre-1850 Peep sights permitted. Any caliber, round ball only.
ASSRA – A single shot rifle is defined as a breech loading cartridge rifle without magazine or provision for additional cartridges, in which the action must be operated, and in which a cartridge or shell must be manually inserted for each shot. Bolt-action rifles are specifically excluded regardless of age or model. The action may be of the falling block, tipping block, rolling block, tip up or any similar type whether made recently or in years past. Regardless of the action type, the rifle shall basically conform to the style and appearance of rifles made from the Civil War era to 1914 period. Iron or telescopic sights may be used. Bullets must be of lead or lead alloy with no metallic gas checks, half jackets or other metallic jackets. These may be loaded from either the muzzle or the breech and may be paper patched at the shooter’s option.
Special Rifle Events
Vetterli - Any original or replica M/L matchlock or firelock musket, any firelock or percussion rifle, non-click adjustable aperture sights or open iron sights, any bullet type. Palm rests may be used in Vetterli event if correct for firearm used. Any caliber, any projectile type. Slings must be original or reproduction of a contemporary type. Modern adjustable target type slings, including single point slings, are not permitted.
Whitworth - Any original or replica M/L percussion rifle not qualifying as military (class 1) and with a bore of less than 0.5315. Non click adjustable aperture sights or open iron sights. Slings must be original or reproduction of a contemporary type. Modern adjustable target type slings, including single point slings, are not permitted.
OH Musket - Any original or replica Muzzle Loading smooth bore longarm without rear sights. Any caliber, round ball only
Open Musket - Any original or replica Muzzle Loading smooth bore longarm, non[1]adjustable rear sights allowed, any caliber, round ball only.
PISTOL CLASSES
Class 1 – (Revolvers) comprises original and replica cap and ball revolvers that were issued to troops somewhere in the world. For example Remington Old Army, Colt Navy etc. No grip modifications allowed but the height of the foresight can be varied so long as it remains the original style. Ball and conical bullets only. Class 1 revolvers can be used in class 3.
Class 2 - (Patch and ball single shot pistols) comprises traditional or civilian-style percussion pistols loaded with a ball and patch. Flintlocks may be used in Class 2 events, but percussion firearms cannot be used in flintlock events. You can also use your Class 2 pistol in class 3.
Class 3 – (Open Pistol) only requires that the pistol uses black powder and lead bullets. Revolvers with adjustable rear sights fall into this class.
Class 4 – Traditional or civilian-style firelock (flintlock, matchlock, wheellock) pistols loaded with a ball and patch. Any caliber, round ball only. Separate events for smoothbore or rifled, but smooth bore can go in both events.
Special Pistol Events
Matchlock – Smooth bore single shot pistols firing ball and patch with a matchlock firing mechanism. Can be used in class 3 and Firelock events also.
